The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Khalihenna Ould Errachid, received on Monday, February 4, 2013, the President of the Parliamentary Morocco-UK Friendship Group, Ian Liddell-Grainger, who is currently paying a visit to Morocco.



The meeting between the Corcas chairman and the President of the Parliamentary Morocco-UK Friendship Group focused on the latest developments in the Sahara, and the need to find a quick and final solution to this issue.

This solution will prevent the risks that threaten the stability and security of the region’s peoples, given the Mali crisis and the dangerous development of terrorists and secessionists movements which threaten the Sahel and Sahara regions.

During this meeting, Corcas chairman presented to his host the origins of the conflict over the Sahara, mainly through mentioning the history of colonialism in Africa, particularity Morocco’s case, which suffered two colonizing countries: France in the center and Spain in the north and the south. He then tackled the process of Morocco’s decolonization and the genesis of the Sahara conflict.

On the other hand, Khalihenna Ould Errachid presented to the President Parliamentary Morocco-UK Friendship Group the establishment conditions of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, its role in the development of the autonomy plan, as well as the negotiation momentum to find a mutually acceptable political solution after the submission of the autonomy plan before the UN Security Council, stressing the progress of these negotiations and the role played by Algeria in this issue.

This meeting was attended by the Council’s Secretary General, Dr Maouelainin Ben Khalihanna Maoulainin, Khaddad El Moussaoui, Vice-Chairman and Corcas member Moulay Ahmed Mghizlat.
