The chairman of the House of Representatives in the Mexican federal Congress (Lower House of Parliament), Jorge Zermeno Infante, qualified Tuesday as "very interesting" the Moroccan initiative to grant an enlarged autonomy to the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty.

"It is a very interesting initiative in order to settle the Sahara issue through a negotiated political solution which aims at granting an enlarged autonomy" to Sahrawi  populations, Mr. Zermeno declared to MAP-Madrid during a stopover in Spain before flying to Morocco where he is awaited for a four day official visit.

The chairman of the House of Representatives of Mexico stressed that its country "respects the decisions taken by Morocco", underlining the importance to find a political peaceful solution (to the Sahara issue) within the framework of the United Nations.

Mr. Zermeno insisted on the importance that his country gives to the development of relations with Morocco which constitutes, according to him, an "important space" for Mexico’s policy to promote the country in the African continent and in the Arab world.
