The President of the Republic of Latvia, Mrs. Vaira Vike-Freiberga, held discussions, Tuesday in Casablanca, with the chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid.

The CORCAS chairman declared that Latvia strongly supports the autonomy proposal presented by Morocco to the international community about the Sahara because of its realistic character.

He added that Mrs. Vaira Vike-Freiberga has a perfect knowledge regarding this issue and supports an autonomy solution under Moroccan sovereignty. According to her, this solution is in perfect conformity with international legality.

Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid added that he gave an exhaustive presentation to the Latvian President on Corcas missions and activities, underlining the fact that Latvia, being a member of the European Union, fully adheres to the autonomy solution proposed by Morocco and appreciates the pertinence of this step based upon negotiations to reach a definitive policy to the conflict.
