"The Council expressed its strong appreciation and support for Ross' efforts to reach a just, final and mutually acceptable political solution" to the Sahara issue, Japanese ambassador Yukio Takasu said at the end of the Council's consultations on the Sahara.
He added that the members of the Council have also "unanimously encouraged the parties to continue the UN-sponsored negotiation process in good faith and without preconditions to reach this just, final and mutually acceptable political solution."
The diplomat noted that the Council's members endorsed Ban Ki-moon's recommendation to extend for another year the mandate of the UN mission in the Sahara (MINURSO), in his most recent report on the Sahara submitted to the Security Council.
