The United Arab Emirates reaffirmed, here Thursday, support to Morocco's territorial integrity, lauding the kingdom's proposal to grant substantial autonomy to the Sahara (Morocco's Southern Provinces) under its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and settle the 30-year-old dispute with the Algeria-backed Polisario separatists.

Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, who received a visiting Moroccan top-level delegation, expressed his country's support to the efforts made to reach a final and political solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.

During this meeting, the delegation conveyed two messages from King Mohammed VI to the Emirati President, Sheikh Khalifa Ben Zayed Al Nahyane and to Sheikh Mohamed Ben Zayed Al Nahyane. The messages were about the autonomy proposal, which is due to be submitted to the United Nations Security Council in order to reach an acceptable solution in line with international legality resolutions.

The visit of this delegation, composed of king's advisor, Mohamed Moatassim, and head of Morocco's intelligence, Yassine Mansouri, is part of Morocco's diplomatic moves in several capitals to drum up support to this plan, devised to end the conflict opposing Morocco to the separatists, who lay claims to the Sahara, a former Spanish colony retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid Accord.

The delegation also provided Sheik Mohamed Ben Zayed Al Nahyane with additional information about the Moroccan project, which would also secure peace and stability in the Maghreb region (regional grouping that musters Algeria, Libya, Mauritanian, Morocco and Tunisia).
